It’s no secret that Ontario has seen major online gaming growth since regulating the market in April 2022. Numerous new Ontario online casinos have moved into the province, which has become a leader in the industry. That has meant even more players have their geolocation checked as they try and play online casinos games, poker, or make a sports bet.
Industry security and compliance leader GeoComply has now made a significant investment in the province after recently opening a new facility in Toronto. The downtown office houses more than two dozen employees and the company held a ribbon cutting on Nov. 8.
“I am pleased to welcome GeoComply into Ontario’s business community,” Ontario attorney general Doug Downey said during the ceremony. “Innovative cyber-security companies like GeoComply are essential to creating a safe and compliant online gaming market.
“Establishing legal iGaming has been a pivotal milestone for our government as we work to ensure that Ontario is a world leader in building a secure online gaming environment that meets consumer expectations. As this digital industry continues to thrive, it is exciting to see high-tech companies bringing tangible jobs and benefits to our province.”
Growing Canadian Presence
GeoComply is quickly establishing some deep roots in Canada as the country sees major expansion in online gaming. Founded in 2011, the company provides critical fraud prevention and security solutions to detect location fraud and help verify a user’s true digital identity. GeoComply has become a leader in the highly-regulated and complex U.S. and Canadian online gaming and sports betting markets.
Beyond iGaming, GeoComply also provides geolocation solutions for streaming video broadcasters, online banking companies, payment and cryptocurrency industries, and more. Some of the company’s customers have included Amazon Prime Video, BBC, DraftKings, FanDuel, and MGM.
Since becoming one of the fastest-growing technology companies in North America, GeoCompy was named among the “Top 10 Most Innovative Enterprise Companies of 2022” by Fast Company magazine. The new Toronto office adds to the firm’s other Canadian facilities in Vancouver, which is the company’s headquarters, and Montreal.
The Toronto employees will serve various functions, including technology compliance and customer support. Some of those have relocated from GeoComply’s office in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Company officials say Canada’s immigration policies have helped fast-track the work status for Ukrainian refugees who have moved to the Toronto area to work.
“This is a landmark moment for our company as we approach 600 staff members globally. We proudly support digital industries, but we cannot do that without boots on the ground,” GeoComply CEO and co-founder Anna Sainsbury said. “Our company seeks top-level talent to fill every role, and we are so impressed with our growing Toronto team. They will drive our mission to instill confidence in every online interaction and deliver leading solutions and services to our customers.”
