As the NHL reaches the all-star break this week, a few Canadian teams are putting together nice seasons as the annual event approaches. The all-star game is set for Feb. 3 and several Canadian squads remain among the leaders in futures betting to lift the Stanley Cup at the end of the season. A Canadian team hasn’t won the championship since 1993.
In the western conference, a trio of teams continue to roll up wins, including the Winnipeg Jets (30-12-5), Vancouver Canucks (33-11-5), and Edmonton Oilers (29-15-1). The Canucks are a surprising leader in the Pacific division, up seven points over Vegas as of Sunday. The Calgary Flames are also battling for a playoff berth at 22-22-5.
In the eastern conference, the Toronto Maple Leafs once again look solid at 25-14-8 while the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators are still struggling below .500.
In futures betting, Edmonton remains a betting favorite to win the Cup at +700, just above the Colorado Avalanche at +750. The Jets are the next-highest Canadian favorite at +1200, followed by the Leafs at +1400.
For those new to futures wagering, a player is betting on a team to win the Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, Grey Cup, etc. The odds are based on a $100 wager, so betting on the Oilers at +700 would yield $700 on that $100 bet. Here’s a look at some leading teams in Stanley Cup betting (via PointsBet):
